Sekar Enggal are a London-based music group who perform gamelan degung and other Sundanese music. The group was formed in 1992 when the first set of gamelan degung instruments arrived in the UK, and is now based at City St George's University.

Regular performances take the group to festivals and venues across the country. Past performances include WOMAD, the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Willow Globe Theatre, Wiltshire Music Centre, River Cultures Festival, West End Arts Centre, South Hill Park Arts Centre, Liverpool Colourscape Festival and the Indonesian ambassador’s residence.

With strong links to education, the group also regularly performs at universities including the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Holloway University of London, SOAS, Goldsmiths’ College, Roehampton University and City St george's University, as well as at many schools, churches and private functions. 

Sekar Enggal is directed by Simon Cook, who began playing gamelan in the Netherlands in 1979, and subsequently spent 12 years in Indonesia studying Sundanese music.  He also directs the gamelan Puloganti at Royal Holloway University of London, as well as being a music teacher and band director at an international school.  His other musical interests include jazz, tango and early music.

Sekar Enggal are available to give concerts, or to perform at parties, receptions and special occasions.
We also give one-off workshops and longer-term residencies in schools and arts centres, often in conjunction with a concert performance.
